Seaweed Developments – Groundhog Day or Progress (since 2022)?
David Mackie, Director, Marine Biopolymers Ltd, The United Kingdom
About the speaker:
An accidentally experienced participant in the seaweed sphere, especially in the area of seaweed processing, or seaweed biorefining as it is now called, who has learned the hard but most effective way of what is possible with seaweed and what is not. He has worked with both Wild and Cultivated seaweeds and sees both the practically applicable limits of biorefining with today’s technologies and the possibilities or otherwise of some “newer” ones. He clearly understands the need to focus as much on Economics and Markets as the Technical side of seaweed processing/biorefining.

The presentation will look at how things have developed, or not, since previous participation in Seagriculture 2022, using both the perspective of own activities, but also through observation of wider events in the seaweed sphere.
