Honest failures and unreliable successes in the seaweed world – some examples.

About the speaker: 

Franck is currently the managing director of Algaia, the main processor of fresh seaweed in Europe. Marine biologist and engineer in marine resource processing from the University of Caen, Normandie, France, Franck lead for 5 years as Research Engineer a seaweed compound research group in the biochemistry department of the National University of Ireland, Galway, focusing on seaweed extract applications on plant, animal and human health. Co-founder of 4 companies including OGT, Alganact; Seaneo and Algaia, Franck has spent already more than 20 years in the seaweed industry and algal product development, from research to industrial development.

Algaia SAS, owned by the group Josef Rettenmaier & Söhne, possesses know-how, data and experience relating to the development, manufacture and marketing of algal extracts, texturizing and active algal-based ingredients in the food, feed, cosmetic and medical device market as well as agricultural plant applications and biodegradable biofibers. The presentation will approach, based on concrete cases observed and experienced in Franck’s current career, how it is important to mitigate all what can be said about seaweed and their potential to human kind and the planet. Based on concrete examples, the presentation will question about real successes or honest failures.
