With a background in marine biology, Baltic Sea ecology, water management and funding, Maya works with sustainable blue bioeconomy in Europe. Main topics revolve around innovating low-trophic aquaculture and valorisation, including mussel and algae cultivation, product development and ecosystem service valorisation.

The network connects authorities, research institutions, civil society, and private companies, to integrate local perspectives into transnational frameworks.


Presentation: 

The presentation aims to describe the legislative context of the seaweed sector in Europe by summarising findings and recommendations from recent reports, overviews and policy briefs, including comparisons internationally. This includes the full value chain, from cultivation to claims and marketing. With this context, challenges for cultivators, harvesters, refineries and product developers are identified, and potential solutions proposed.
