About the speaker: 

Øivind Bergh (b. 1962) Dr. scient in General Microbiology, University of Bergen, Norway. About 100 reviewed publications, particularly on environmental effects on and from aquaculture, fish health and utilisation of marine areas.  Coordinator of the EU projects COEXIST (2010-2013) and OLAMUR (2023-2026) Project leader of IMR´s parts of SFI Smart Ocean and MARCO (Marine Cooperation) financed by the Norwegian Research Council.

The Institute of Marine Research is Norway´s largest and one of Europe´s largest marine research institutes, with about 1030 employees. It is a subsidary of the the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries. Their headquarters are located in Bergen. They also have a branch office in Tromsø and research stations in Matre, Austevoll, and Flødevigen. In addition, their Research Vessel Department has ownership responsibility for three sea-going and three coastal research vessels, which are their most important tools for collecting marine data. The institute also has several laboratories that analyze samples from monitoring and research programs. Research and advice from IMR contribute to ensuring that society can continue to utilize the ocean’s vast resources in a sustainable way in the future. They are a neutral knowledge, provider, working to make the results of their research known both nationally and internationally. 


Presentation: 

The OLAMUR project is a flagship project of the EU Mission Ocean, a part of the Horizon Europe. OLAMUR is aiming to realise multi-use of marine area in large scale. Seaweeds and mussels are cultivated in Low Trophic Aquaculture (LTA) within the area of large-scale offshore windfarms, or together with a rainbow trout farm. The project includes studies of contaminants and nutritional value, as well as live-cycle analysis ofthe aquaculture products. In addition to three case studies, in Germany, Denmark and Estonia, the project now includes studies in three Associated Regions, in Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Turkey and Bulgaria.
