Site Visits

Hortimare invites you to their facilities in Heerhugowaard to see how they work and their areas of focus. You will have the chance to see their culture collection, cultivation systems, learn about how they approach breeding, support farming operations, and several other aspects. They believe scientific development and commercial goals are strongly linked in the seaweed industry, which will be reflected throughout this day at Hortimare.

Arrival via: Organised bus from Rotterdam or independently

10:00: Sign in at Rotterdam bus departure point and receive take-away lunch

12:30: Arrival at Hortimare by bus (for independent travel, please arrive by 12:00)

13:00: Tour at Hortimare

16:00: Finish tour and get-together with snacks and drinks

17:30: Departure of buses from Hortimare to Rotterdam (arrival approx. at 19:30/20:00)

The Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ), the Department of Estuarine and Delta Systems invites you to their facilities in Yerseke for a scientific meeting and a tour to experience their the seaweed research facilities. This meeting will be co-organised by the NWO-KIC Aquatic Food production projects CircAqua, SeaSeeds and From Sea to Society. During the day there will be many scientific presentations, oral and poster, highlighting the most recent findings of seaweed research.
